Henrietta Independent

( 26 April 1918)

Allen Albert Spangler -
born 17 March 1851
died 22 April 1918

A. A. Spangler, age 66 years, 5 months and 5 days, died at his residence in Henrietta early Monday morning. The body was taken to Cambridge for burial, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. F. A. Crutchfield of Electra, at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Mr. Spangler, about two months ago, contracted blood poison from a blister on his foot. After ineffective efforts to stop the spread of infection, the foot was cut off, the amputition being between the ankle and knee joints, but this also failed. For several weeks his death has been expected almost daily. Mr. Spangler is survived by his wife and a family of children, all of whom are grown. He was one of the pioneers, having lived in the county something over 35 years. In the late 80's he was associated with J. F. Alcorn in merchandising, and for many years until a couple of years ago was with Barber & Taylor and later with L. J. Barber & Co. in the hardware business, and enjoyed a very wide acquaintance.
